How did the idea for food at school come about?
In 2022, the Youth Education Fund noticed a worrying trend: schools increasingly asked for food. Teachers observed that extra sandwiches were needed because students often came to school without breakfast or with an empty lunchbox. This reduced energy and concentration in the classroom, affecting academic performance.
The fund raised the alarm with the media and national politics.
In September 2022, the House of Representatives adopted a proposal from Volt and D66. €100 million per year has been made available for food for students. The programme will also continue in 2025.
